Billing & Refunds
Last updated: 22 June 2026 · Version 1.0
This page explains how paid plans work on Mizani. Groups and SACCOs pay a subscription for paid features; individual members are not charged by Mizani. Importantly, subscription fees are for the software only — Mizani UK Limited (“Mizani”) never receives, holds or moves your group's or members' money. Your group keeps its own money, offline and under its own control.
1. What you pay for
Mizani offers paid plans for groups and SACCOs that unlock additional features beyond the free tier. The group or SACCO pays a subscription to use that paid software. Individual members do not pay Mizani anything to use the app.
Informal savings groups are free for up to 10 members. Beyond that, and for registered SACCOs and workplace schemes, the plan is USD 2 per member per year; investment clubs are USD 10 per member per year. See the pricing page for current amounts in your local currency.
To be completely clear: any fee you pay is for access to the software only. Mizani never receives, holds, or moves the group's money or any member's money. Contributions, savings, loans and payouts are handled by the group itself, offline, in line with its own rules. Mizani simply helps you record and organise that activity. See our Terms of Service for the full agreement.
2. Plans and prices
The current plans, features and prices are shown on our pricing page and again when you subscribe. We will always display the price before you commit to a paid plan.
- Plans are priced per member, per year, based on the number of active members in the group or SACCO.
- Prices are set in US dollars (USD) and shown to you in your local currency (UGX, KES or RWF). Where a payment is converted, the amount charged is at the exchange rate applied on the day of payment.
- Prices are shown inclusive of any applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. Any taxes that apply will be shown before you pay.
3. Who pays and how
The group or SACCO is responsible for paying its subscription. In practice this is usually arranged by the group's leaders (for example its chairperson, treasurer or administrator) on the group's behalf.
- Accepted payment methods are mobile money and card, and are shown at checkout.
- You must provide accurate and up-to-date billing details and keep them current so we can process payment correctly.
4. Billing cycle and renewal
Subscriptions are billed annually in advance. Unless you cancel, your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period so your paid features continue without interruption.
If we change the price of your plan, we will give you at least 30 days' notice before the change takes effect. If you do not wish to continue at the new price, you may cancel before it applies.
5. Cancellation
You can cancel a paid subscription at any time from your group's billing settings in the app, or by emailing us. When you cancel:
- you keep access to paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for;
- you will not be charged again after that period ends; and
- your group's records remain handled in line with our Privacy Notice.
6. Refunds
As a general rule, subscription fees are non-refundable except where a refund is required by law. Because cancelling stops future charges and you keep access until the end of your paid period, there is normally nothing further to refund.
- We may, at our discretion, offer a goodwill or pro-rata refund — for example where a paid plan was charged in error, or a serious fault made the paid features unusable for an extended period. Goodwill refunds are decided case by case and are not guaranteed.
- If you are a consumer in the UK, statutory consumer cancellation rights may apply to some purchases, including a 14-day right to cancel. That right can be lost once a digital service has started with your consent. Nothing in this policy affects rights you have by law.
7. Failed or late payment
If a payment fails or is not made on time, we may suspend access to paid features until payment is brought up to date. We will try to let you know before doing so where we can.
Suspension does not delete your group's data. Your records are retained in line with our Privacy Notice and can be restored when payment resumes. We allow at least a 30-day grace period after a failed payment before taking any further action.
8. Changes to plans and this policy
We may change our plans, features or prices, and we may update this Billing & Refunds policy from time to time. Where a change materially affects you, we will give at least 30 days' notice before it takes effect. Any change will be reflected by the "last updated" date above. This policy is governed by the laws of England and Wales.
