Our vision

One home for every way we save together

From friends saving in a circle to registered cooperatives to family pooling money back home — one honest place to keep track of it all, for everyone across East Africa and wherever its people have gone.

Three ways to save, one record

Friends' groups

Chama, VSLA, the merry-go-round. Everyone puts in, takes turns, and shares out at the end. There are hundreds of thousands of them — and almost all still run on paper.

Registered SACCOs

Proper cooperatives with shares, dividends and an AGM. Real value builds up year after year — yet most still run on spreadsheets no ordinary member can check.

Family abroad

Relatives in London, Boston or Toronto pooling into deals back home — a plot, a rental, a business — with no shared record, and a lot of room for things to go wrong.

The problem we set out to fix

Enormous sums move through these groups every year, carrying people's hopes — a home, a business, school fees, a dignified funeral. Yet most groups have no record their own members can trust. It leads to the same quiet hurts, again and again:

  • You have to take the treasurer's word for it — there's no way to check.
  • Cash goes missing, and there's no trace of where it went.
  • Years of faithful saving and borrowing count for nothing at a bank.
  • Family abroad can't take part, or even see what's happening.
  • When a dispute comes, there's nothing solid to point to.

How it grows with you

One foundation, growing in steps. Each step carries the same people and the same history into something bigger — nothing is ever left behind.

Where it began

The friends' group, made honest

We started with the group nearly everyone knows — friends saving together. The heart of it is one record no one can quietly change, that everyone can see, and that the meeting confirms together. Get that right, and trust follows.

Where it is now

Grown into the whole money life

The same record now carries a registered SACCO — shares, dividends, a clean year-end — a welfare pot that looks after people in hard times, and investing back home together. The same members, the same history, simply more of what a group needs as it grows.

What's next

More ways to look after each other

Cover underwritten by an insurer, a safe place for the group's documents, simple money lessons, and a way to link many groups into one network. Each builds on the same honest record everyone already trusts.

How we keep the lights on

We earn only when your group does well — never by touching your money.

A small monthly fee

A modest fee per group for keeping the record — priced for a friends' group, and growing only as the group does.

More for bigger cooperatives

Registered SACCOs are larger and ask more of the platform, so they pay a little more for the deeper features they rely on.

A small share on deals

On investment deals back home, a small share of the returns and organiser fees — only ever when members actually make money.

The one line we'll never cross

Mizani Wallet keeps the record — it is not a bank. We never hold your money, never lend it ourselves, and never take deposits. Your group's own officers move the cash — on mobile money, at the bank, or in the box — and the app simply reads it and checks it adds up.

This is our promise and our protection at once: because the money never passes through us, your group stays in full control of it — and always will. That is not a stage we'll grow out of. It's a line.

Where we are today

Live

Running end to end, every part tested

One record

Nothing can be rubbed out of it

Two people

Needed to confirm any money

The whole journey above is built and working — from a friends' group keeping its first honest record to a SACCO paying dividends and family investing back home together. Start wherever you are; the rest is here when you need it.
